Five days ago, I started eating a low carb high fat diet. I was skeptical about how eating this way would help me lose weight, but it's working!
I have struggled with losing weight for the last 6 years. When I got pregnant with my first daughter, I gained a good 75 pounds during that pregnancy. I lost 20 after having her, but struggled to lose the rest. I really had to work hard and at one point I turned to a doctor who gave me Phentramine. With the drug, I was able to lose another 40 pounds.
The weight eventually started to creep back on, and when I got pregnant with my second daughter last year, I gained back 30 more pounds. After she was born I was able to lose 20 pounds with no problem, but it wasn't as much as I wanted.
So there I was, needing to lose at least 65 pounds to get to my goal. Working hard, counting every calorie, I was able to lose a pound here and a pound there. From the end of June to the end of August I managed to lose 7 pounds by counting every single calorie that went into my mouth, but it wasn't as much as I wanted to lose or as fast as I had hoped. 7 pounds in 11 weeks isn't the 2 pounds per week I was looking for.
Earlier this month, I was looking around on the internet, reading about Atkins and low carb diets. I have never tried a true low carb diet and the thought of trying to keep my carbs at 20 grams per day seemed impossible. But the more I read, the more it seemed like this might be the way I need to go for awhile to see if I can speed up my weight loss. I have read about Ketosis and everything makes sense. This post was one that I read before making the decision to try this way of eating.
So this week I took on the challenge of keeping my carb count around 20 grams per day. My total weight loss since Monday has been 5.2 pounds! Some of that was water weight of course, but I am thrilled with that number. I can already see small changes in my body and that has me excited.
By Wednesday, I was sure I was in Ketosis. I had a horrible taste in my mouth, a pounding headache, and felt generally yucky. Luckily that only lasted a day or so. I feel great today.
I am so excited to start this blog and keep track of this journey. I plan to try low carb recipes and share my experiences. I have found a lot of very helpful places on the internet to get support while I am doing this. My goal is to make this become a lifestyle change, not just a fad diet. I am hopefully that with this all, I will reach my goal.
